ABOUT

The first of its kind in Britain, The British School of Shiatsu-Do was founded in 1983. It is one of the leading schools in the UK with an international reputation for high quality of teaching and innovation. The BSS evolved out of a need for more formal and in depth studies in this ancient healing art. The School continues to be a leading force in the growth and public awareness of Shiatsu-Do with branches in London and in the UK.

We offer a 3-year part time course leading to a Practitioner?s Diploma. The courses are modular in structure allowing the student to choose their own pace of study and whether their desire is to study Shiatsu for their own self development or to become a professional practitioner.

The Principals of the Branch schools are all qualified Shiatsu-Do teachers and their teaching hours with you contribute towards the Shiatsu Society requirements of hours and syllabus. The BSS theory syllabus has been ratified by the Shiatsu Society an organisation that the BSS promotes as the body offering governance and support to Shiatsu in Britain and a code of ethics and practice that supports the general public. Graduates of the BSS are therefore not required to present themselves for the Shiatsu Society theory examinations should they wish to become a member of the Shiatsu Society?s register of practitioners (MRSS). Students can also move between branches to continue with their studies.

All branch schools follow an equal opportunities policy and non-discriminatory teaching. Our courses are open to all women and men, irrespective of age, religion/creed, and sexual persuasion. Unfortunately our facilities for disabled students are limited. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.

Farnham School Principal

The Principal of the BSS (Farnham) is David M Winter PhD, Dip BSS., MRSS(T). He has been involved with Shiatsu for over 8 years, obtaining a practitioner diploma and teaching qualifications from the BSS-Do (London). David is registered with the Shiatsu Society and runs a successful Shiatsu clinic in West Street, Farnham.

David?s interest in Ki began in 1974 with his studies of traditional Aikido, later practising and teaching Ki Aikido and Kiatsu. The fundamental principles of mind-body co-ordination and Ki development that are found in this art of Aikido are interwoven into his teaching of Shiatsu.

David?s teaching approach is both relaxed and professional, where humour, fun and serious study all play equally important roles.

David combines his work in Shiatsu with an active interest in IT consultancy. Merging his 20+ year?s background of management roles in Blue chip financial services with the principles of Shiatsu theory.
